Orbital Edge Offloading on Mega-LEO Satellite Constellations for Equal Access to Computing

چکیده

Mega-LEO satellite constellations are becoming a concrete reality. Companies such as SpaceX, Virgin Orbit, and OneWeb have already started launching hundreds of LEO satellites turning their services on. Even if the aim is just, for now, to offer worldwide Internet access equality, deployment proves feasibility suggests usefulness further purposes. In this article, we shed some light on possible integration in-network computing paradigm in mega-LEO constellations. Terrestrial and/or non-terrestrial nodes can benefit from offloading an orbital edge (OE) platform reachable through constellation, exploiting its fast distributed computational capability. context, preliminary analysis highlights that task strategies lead performance improvements open up novel challenges design setup OE platforms.

LTE-based Satellite Communications in LEO Mega-Constellations

The integration of satellite and terrestrial networks is a promising solution for extending broadband coverage to areas not connected to a terrestrial infrastructure, as also demonstrated by recent commercial and standardisation endeavours. However, the large delays and Doppler shifts over the satellite channel pose severe technical challenges to traditional terrestrial systems, as LTE or 5G. I...

Orbital Perturbation Effect on LEO Satellite Trajectory

A satellite, in its orbit, is affected by perturbing forces, such as atmospheric drag, solar radiation pressure, Earth oblateness, and gravity of the celestial masses (other than the Earth). In this paper, the effects of these forces on the trajectories of different types of LEO satellites and a sample satellite (Z-SAT) are discussed. A few analyses are done on these orbits and the relevant res...

Computing call-blocking probabilities in LEO satellite constellations

We present an analytical model for computing call-blocking probabilities in a low earth orbit (LEO) satellite network that carries voice calls. Both satelliteand earth-fixed constellations with interorbit links and handoffs are considered. In this model, we assume a single beam per satellite. Also, we assume that call arrivals are Poisson with a fixed arrival rate that is independent of the geo...

Routing Issues for Leo Satellite Constellations

We present diierent issues of routing in LEO satellite constellations. The nature of the problem itself needs further explanations. The exact market of these systems lets many questions open, although some models have been advanced. The structure of the ISLs vary from one design to another and impacts signiicantly the optimization. The movement of the satellites also gives to the system a dynam...

Internet Routing over LEO Satellite Constellations

Satellite constellations ooer interesting perspectives for Internet traac routing, since they beneet from a worldwide coverage and do not have the main drawback of geosynchronous satellites : propagation delay. However, because of their low altitude, LEO satellites are in constant motion and exhibit speciic issues for routing. This article presents a general architecture applicable to the integ...
